Chartres, France

In early August Jeremy and I drove to Chartres, France.  We knew the most popular thing to see there was the big cathedral, and it did not disappoint - it was huge.  The town was also lovely!  We had a nice afternoon strolling around, eating lunch at a questionable Chinese restaurant and seeing a dog identical to Jeremy's childhood dog "Smokey" walk around the streets.  We also went to a chateau on the way home!

This is where we should have eaten...much more quaint and cute..and French!

...and expensive!

The Chartres cathedral was huge and we were fortunate enough to see the progress being made on the restoration.  They are sand-blasting it from the inside out.  Right now it is very dark and covered with soot from hundreds of years, but the original stone and marble is light and quite a different feel.  It's actually quite colorful.

The Cathedral stands up on a hill and has beautiful views of the city from the grounds.

We stopped at Chateau de Rambouillet on our way back from Chartres.  It was a lovely Chateau and looked quite different any others we have seen around France.  We walked the garden and the cute town next to the chateau.  It was nice to be there as the leaves were already turning for Fall.
